TopTenREVIEWS - Bronze Award - Awarded for excellence in design, usability and feature set

When you look for a good sports ticket website, you want one that covers all the bases, even if you aren’t looking for baseball tickets. StubHub, our TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award winner, certainly has everything you need to find the tickets you want.

StubHub is more than just a site to buy tickets. You can also sell your own tickets if you find yourself in possession of some you can’t use. This has made StubHub a central location for all things ticket related. The selection of tickets is pretty broad too. If your favorite sports is having an event at a major venue, StubHub probably has tickets for you. This includes major leagues, like NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, WWE, UFC, NASCAR and more, along with more obscure attractions, like Motocross, Skating, Bodybuilding, Horse Racing, Rugby and the like. No matter what you’re interested in, you can find it on StubHub.

Having a wide range of tickets isn’t worth much if the site makes it hard to find and buy them. Fortunately, StubHub makes the buying process very simple. There are several ways to narrow down your selection and then purchase the tickets. This includes narrowing your search according to ticket price or seating area. You can have it any way you like.

Another great reason to use StubHub is the selection of features available. StubHub is one of the few companies to allow you three different options for receiving your tickets. You can have them shipped, which is most common, you can have them ready for you to pick up at the event or you can even print them off at home. This kind of flexibility is very agreeable because it can accommodate anyone.

There were a few simple reasons why StubHub didn’t make it into the top slot. One of the main reasons is that the site isn’t quite as easy to navigate as the #1 site, Ticketmaster. Another small problem that brought StubHub down was the variable pricing for shipping your tickets and an extra charge if you opt for will call. When choosing a place to buy your tickets, it’s always nice to know exactly how much you will pay rather than encountering extra fees along the way. But these are fairly small considerations and StubHub still soars above the other competition.

While StubHub isn’t one of the cheapest ticket sites out there, the prices are definitely on par with the rest of the industry. When you purchase tickets, you can expect to pay a service charge that amounts to 10% of the ticket price. Obviously, this means that more expensive tickets will incur a larger service fee.

The least agreeable aspect in buying tickets from StubHub is the shipping fee. All other sites have a set rate for shipping; however, StubHub's shipping rates can vary. They usually fall between $12 and $25. If you don’t want to spend the money on shipping, you also have the will call option. This means that you simply pick up the tickets at your event. However, we were dismayed to find that StubHub charges a fee for will call tickets when most other sites don’t. This seems unnecessary, but if you do will call pickup, you can expect to pay $15.

One of the things we like best about StubHub is the ability to print your tickets yourself. StubHub is one of only a handful of sites that allows this. This is the most attractive option because you don’t have to worry about receiving a shipment on time or picking up the tickets at the event, which can pose a challenge if you are running late. While printing is the most convenient option, you can still expect to pay a fee for the convenience. This doesn’t make much sense since it seems like it should cost nothing to print something on your own computer. But StubHub appears to have a fee for everything. Printing your tickets will cost $5, which doesn’t sound so bad when compared to shipping or will call prices.

StubHub has a full set of features, which is part of why it ranks so high in our review. These features allow you to buy and receive your tickets the way you want. For instance, besides finding your tickets online, StubHub also provides a phone number in case you prefer to order by speaking to someone directly.

If you do use the site for ordering, or even just for research, there are a lot of useful features for finding your tickets. You can search for tickets by sport category, team or city, accommodating you whether you root for a specific team or you just want to see a game in a city you’ll be visiting.

When you’ve found the tickets you want, StubHub has several more options for you. You can have the tickets shipped to you, you can choose to have the tickets available at the event for you to pick up, or you can even print the tickets yourself at home. The last option is obviously the most convenient because you can totally bypass the middlemen and have the tickets in hand immediately. StubHub is one of only four sites that allows you to print your tickets yourself. It’s certainly a convenient feature we wish more sites had.

StubHub isn’t just about buying tickets, though. There is also a way to sell your own tickets on the site. This is extremely useful if you have some tickets that you won’t be able to use. You can simply post the tickets on StubHub, set the price you think they are worth and then wait for someone to buy them. StubHub gives you the money from your sale, minus a fee for selling on their site. Selling fees will vary because they are calculated at 15% of the price the tickets sell for. The higher the price, the higher the fee.

If you have no idea what to charge for your tickets, there is also an option to auction them off. This is a great option because the tickets go to the highest bidder, meaning you might get more money than you expect. However, because of the nature of auctions, you could also receive less than you expect.

The StubHub site is divided by the type of sport you’re looking for, and then by team. It’s fairly easy to use and quite intuitive. The site also features some great tools for finding tickets, which makes the process much easier. You can refine your searches by your specific price range and you can also search by the specific area of the stadium in which you’d like to sit. This is perfect for people with a limited budget or who have a favorite place to sit.
